Three Dog Night’s statistics are astonishing and virtually unmatched in popular music. From 1969 through 1974, no other group had more top 10 hits, moved more records or sold more concert tickets.
Three Dog Night’s success, particularly as a live attraction, was so overwhelming that out of necessity, they almost had to “invent” modern rock touring to meet the demands of their fans. The group had 21 consecutive Top 40 hits, 18 straight Top 20s, 11 Top 10s, three number ones, seven million-selling singles and 12 straight Certified Gold LPs. The band’s hits appeared on best-selling charts in all genres — pop, rock and country. The band’s hits read like a soundtrack for the era, with “Mama Told Me Not To Come,” “Black And White,” “Shambala,” “One,” “Never Been To Spain,” and of course “Joy To The World,” just to name a few.
Their records continue to sell around the world, reaching beyond the borders of the U.S. into Japan, Canada, Holland, England, Germany, Spain and elsewhere. Tens of millions of Three Dog Night records have been sold.
Three Dog Night’s signature sound, delivered to audiences spanning generations, currently features founding members Cory Wells and Danny Hutton on lead vocals, as well as original keyboardist Jimmy Greenspoon and guitarist Michael Allsup. Paul Kingery (bass and vocals) and Pat Bautz (drums) complete the lineup.
