Music for children’s literature has been a world-wide sensation since the debut, in 1936, of Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf.” Since that time, musical storytelling has been a force in introducing classical music to children. The program that will be presented at this free family concert will include three famous bedtime stories: “Ferdinand,” music by Alan Ridout and words by Munro Leaf, “Babar,” music by Francis Poulenc and words by Jean de Brunhoff, and “Story of a Soldier,” music by Igor Stravinsky and words by C.F. Ramuz adapted by Sean Stevenson. It will be performed by Ensemble P, featuring Idith Korman Meshulam on piano, Philip Wharton on violin, Amy Zoloto on clarinet and narrated by the stars of the soap opera One Life to Live, Kassie and Jim DePaiva. |
