| Igor
Butman, Russia's premier tenor saxophonist, will make
a special appearance when he headlines at the Belleayre
Jazz Club. Rated the number one Soviet sax player in
the 1980s, Igor first brought his talents to the United
States in 1987 when he enrolled at the Berklee School
of Music and then joined the NY jazz scene. He began
touring the States, released several albums, and made
guest appearances on records by some of America's top
players, including an acclaimed disc by Grover Washington
Jr. He has also toured with the likes of Randy Brecker,
Billy Cobham and Joe Locke. Igor returned to Russia
in 1997, forming his quartet, and quickly regained his
position as one of the country's top jazz players. He
is also the host of a popular TV show in Moscow. He
returns to the U.S. on a regular basis and his engagements
have included the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival and New
York's Birdland. Igor's group has quickly evolved into
one of Russia's best hardcore jazz units. His soulful
tenor playing recalls the greatest saxophonists in jazz
