The Belleayre Festival
Opera celebrates the 100th anniversary of Puccini's
tragic masterpiece, Madama Butterfly, with an all new
production by Donald Westwood, director of four previous
Belleayre productions. Kingston's Daily Freeman music
critic Kitty Montgomery called last season's La Boheme
a "compelling, in-your-lap production fabulously
staged." Previous productions by Mr. Westwood have
been called "exemplary" and "unusually
successful" by The New York Times, "very special"
by The New York Post and "a welcome addition to
this city's music" by New York magazine. Opera
News has recognized Mr. Westwood's productions as "a
dynamic alternative to the giants at Lincoln Center."
Madama Butterfly will be performed in original Italian,
with simultaneous translation via SuperTitles.
The Opera program is sponsored, in part, by a grant
from the Eleanor Naylor Dana Charitable Trust. |
