The Belleayre Festival Orchestra
Performs The Music of Queen: A Rock Symphony

Brent Havens, conductor Brody Dolyniuk, vocalist + A Great Rock Band

concert page: Brent Havens, conductor Brody Dolyniuk, vocalist + A Great Rock Band

artist website: www.windbornemusic.com

High energy, fun music, and the familiarity of the songs make the "The Music of Queen!" show a blast from start to finish. This Windborne Production, the people behind Belleayre's 2013 "The Music of Pink Floyd" and 2012 "The Music of Led Zeppelin," has quickly garnered critical and fan acclaim. The performance features a full symphony orchestra and rock band, incredible vocals, a great light show and the appropriately symphonic song writing of the members of Queen!

Star of the long running Las Vegas rock show Yellow Brink Road, Brody Dolyniuk, handles the complex task of representing Freddie Mercury's vocals. Brody sounds amazing, leading the band and orchestra through the set list. The crowd will instantly be transported back to the heyday of Queen with all-time classics like "We Will Rock You," "We Are The Champions," "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," "Bohemian Rhapsody" and many more.

As with all of Windborne's shows, the band stays as close to the original as possible while the orchestra soars through the tunes and adds that extra "something" that make Windborne's shows special.

A great way to celebrate July 4th weekend, the Festival Orchestra will open the show with a burst of patriotic music.

Buddy Guy

Six-time Grammy winner and Rock-n-Roll Hall of Famer Buddy Guy also carries the prestigious title of Billboard magazine's Greatest Living Electric Blues Guitarist. His accolades are plentiful and Buddy will put his mesmerizing playing and vocal talents on full display at Belleayre.

Celebrating a half-century of his storied career, Buddy's live shows sizzle, capturing the essence of his life with his unique presentation. Buddy is known, too, for his showmanship on stage, playing his guitar with drumsticks, or strolling into the audience while playing solos.

Buddy was heavily influenced by the likes of Muddy Waters and Junior Wells and carved out an early niche as a session player at Chess Records. His career took on a new dimension during the blues revival period of the late 1980s and early 1990s -- sparked by Eric Clapton's request that Buddy be part of the "24 Nights" all-star blues guitar lineup at London's Royal Albert Hall.

Buddy received his sixth Grammy Award in 2011, winning Best Contemporary Blues Album for "Living Proof."

The living legend promises a smoking hot, unforgettable evening of blues mastery.

Quinn Sullivan

Quinn Sullivan Opening for Buddy on the Pavilion stage at 8pm, 15-year-old prodigy Quinn Sullivan will showcase his precocious talents.

Since his "discovery" by Buddy Guy, Quinn has appeared on national televisions shows including: Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, CBS This Morning, Ellen, Oprah and The Today Show and was featured in Guitar Player and Guitar World magazines.

He has shared stages not only with Buddy, but also with such greats as B.B. King, Jonny Lang and many others at iconic venues including the Hollywood Bowl and both New York's Apollo and Beacon Theaters.

Legendary jazz guitarist John McLaughlin said: "He's unbelievable... and he plays just like Jimi (Hendrix)!"

Southside Johnny
and the Asbury Jukes

concert page:

artist website: www.southsidejohnny.com

The Belleayre Music Festival is proud to support our community and will share the net proceeds of this concert to the Margaretville Hospital and the Town of Shandaken Ambulance Services. Because of a conflict with the artists contract we are not able to offer free seats to this performance as we had intended, but we are so happy to be able to support these important community services instead!

Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes first achieved prominence in the mid-1970s, emerging from the same New Jersey Shore music scene as his now legendary contemporary and friend Bruce Springsteen.

Southside's first three albums, I Don't Want To Go Home, This Time It's for Real, and Hearts of Stone, were produced by band co-founder Steven Van Zandt (E Street Band, The Sopranos), and largely featured songs written by Van Zandt and/or Springsteen. The Van Zandt-written "I Don't Want To Go Home" became Southside's signature song, an evocative mixture of horn-based melodic riffs and sentimental lyrics.

In 1982 Rolling Stone Magazine voted Hearts of Stone among the top 100 albums of the 1970s and 1980s.

With their classic blend of hard-core R&B and street-level rock, molten grooves, soulful guitar licks and blistering horn section, Johnny and his Jukes continue to put their unique stamp on the Jersey Shore sound, while recalling the glory years of Otis Redding and similar Stax Records titans

Belleayre Festival Opera

Mara Waldman, Musical Director
Starring Diana McVey

Made famous by Maria Callas and her portrayal of the fabulous "Mad Scene," Lucia di Lammermoor is based on a novel of the same name by Sir Walter Scott. Set in Scotland, it is the story of two feuding clans and the fragile woman that gets caught in the middle. One of the most performed operas in the world, it did not go two seasons between 1903 and 1972 without a performance at the Metropolitan Opera.

Festival favorite Diana McVey returns as the lead. Diana, a soprano, star of the Belleayre Festival Opera's 2012 production of La Boheme, lead a company of fifty singers and orchestral musicians. Donizetti's Bel Canto classic, rarely staged outside the world's greatest opera houses, will be fully staged and performed in the original Italian with simultaneous translation via SuperTitles.

Lucia will be produced and directed by Donald Westwood -- his 16th main stage production for the Festival.

A very special Thank You to the
Eleanor Naylor Dana Charitable Trust,
Andrew J. Signorile, Chairman,

Django Reinhardt Festival All-Stars

Belleayre Jazz Club

With accolades like "The best Jazz show in New York City!" from The Wall Street Journal, the Django Reinhardt Festival All-Stars celebrate their 15th anniversary this year. The DFAS carry on the legacy of the brilliant gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt who teamed with famed jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli in the '30s and '40s to create the Quintet of the Hot Club de France which went on to become one of the most important jazz partnerships in history and causing a worldwide sensation! This 'hot-swing' form of Jazz has its roots in American popular music and in the reverence for Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, and other great American Jazz figures.

Django played with virtuosity unmatched to this day and an originality that inspires young guitarists all over the world to continue perpetuating his legacy. The Django Reinhardt Festival serves to carry on this legacy with the top players from Europe combined with America's great jazz stars to bring joy to the pubic with its swinging sound, virtuosity, romantic melodies, and camaraderie amongst the musicians. Leonardo DiCaprio shows up at many of their concerts and has become one of DFAS' biggest fans as has George Benson.

The Cookers

Belleayre Jazz Club

George Cables, Billy Harper, Billy Hart, Cecil McBee, Eddie Henderson, Donald Harrison, David Weiss

The Cookers All-Star Jazz Band is an amazing collection of veteran jazz musicians: Billy Hart (drums), Cecil McBee (bass), Eddie Henderson (trumpet), David Weiss (trumpet), Billy Harper (tenor sax), Donald Harrison (alto sax) and George Cables (piano). Individually, they've been at the core of the post-bop jazz scene for decades.

Each member of the Cookers has spent time leading his own series of groups as well, and each has a keenly individual sound. But it's the unmistakable power of teamwork that makes this music so commanding and resonates with a kind of depth and beauty that speaks of the seasoned track record of its principals (combined, the group has over 250 years of experience in the jazz world and has been a part of over 1,000 recordings). You can feel the collective weight of that experience in their CDs and especially in their live performances. The group has performed at venues around the world, including headlining the New Orleans Jazz Fest, Playboy Jazz Festival, Vancouver Jazz Festival, Umbria Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, and Chicago Jazz Festival in addition to headlining Newport this year.

Featuring Bob Stern

Music of Mexico
Belleayre Jazz Club

concert page: Music of Mexico
Belleayre Jazz Club

artist website: gilgutierrezmusic.blogspot

When Belleayre Music Festival Artistic Director Mel Litoff visited World Heritage Site, San Miguel de Allende in Mexico's highlands he "discovered" an amazing new voice in Latin Music. "When I heard Alberto Solis sing -- I knew he was something very special and I needed to present him at the 2014 Festival's Hot Latin Nights. With the ever increasing Mexican population in the Catskills, I have been wanting to include Mexican music for quite a while and I knew Alberto would be perfect," he said.

Mexico's premier jazz guitarist, Gil Gutierrez, will accompany Alberto. Trumpeter and Tonight Show band leader Doc Severinsen with whom Gil tours quite often, says, "Gil Gutierrez brings the fullest meaning to the word, virtuoso. Whether it is jazz, Mexican or pure classical, he brings sensitivity and excitement to the music."

This is a show not to be missed -- you will see the U.S. debut of a future international star.

Music of Cuba

The Pedrito Martinez Quartet

Belleayre Jazz Club

If you attended Pedrito's performance at the Festival last year or heard the concert live on WIOX, you know why Ben Ratliff of The New York Times calls Pedrito an "incomparable performer." With hands of thunder and a voice like lightning, Pedrito Martinez electrified the Belleayre audience that cheered, danced the night away and then demanded his return engagement.

It has become a familiar question backstage at festivals, concert halls or anywhere else that musicians gather on the road: "Have you heard that amazing Cuban percussionist in New York City?" Pedrito Martinez may not yet be widely known to the public, but among his peers, he is firmly established as a source of rhythmic delight, inspiration and awe.

Brazilian guitarist Romero Lubambo and Argentine Bassist Pablo Aslan bring their world-famous ensembles to the Belleayre stage featuring some of the finest musicians, singers and dancers we have ever presented.

Romero Lubambo is considered by critics to be "the best practitioner of his craft in the world today ... the guitarist's facility, creativity and energy are in a class all their own." Romero has also established himself as a composer and performer on his own critically acclaimed recording projects as well as on those of Trio Da Paz.

Pablo Aslan, following in the footsteps of his mentor Astor Piazzolla, has long been in the forefront of forging an alliance between jazz and the tango. His groups, the New York Buenos Aires Connection, Avantango, and the New York Tango Trio have earned rave reviews and two Grammy nominations. He performs in residency at Restaurant Malbec in NoHo.

Broadway's Leading Man

Norbert Leo Butz

One of Broadway's most versatile stars, Norbert Leo Butz earned Tony Awards for Leading Actor in a Musical for his roles in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Catch Me If You Can.

Other notable credits include Roger in Rent, his Tony-nominated turn in Thou Shalt Not, the outrageous Mark Twain farce Is He Dead? and originating the role of Fiyero in Wicked. Off-Broadway credits include The Last Five Years and Juno and the Paycock. He recently returned to the Great White Way in the musical adaptation of Big Fish.

The New York Times raved in reviewing Norbert's concert show: "Mr. Butz, who has won two Tonys for best performance by a leading actor in a musical is a much larger, more complex musical personality than could ever be contained by a single role. He has the soul of a poet and a bluesman on the same wavelength as Van Morrison and Tom Waits".

The intimate setting of the Belleayre Music Festival will allow the audience a rare close up view of one of stage and screen's shining young talents. This show will be an energetic and eclectic mix of Norbert's favorite songs from Broadway to the radio.

Colin Quinn's Unconstitutional

Special Guest TBA

Saturday Night Live alumnus Colin Quinn, the gravelly-voiced comedian who has enjoyed a stellar career on TV and in movies, brings his tremendous wit and powers of observation to Belleayre. His newest solo show, Unconstitutional, finds the acerbic comedian musing on 226 years of American history -- from the founding fathers to predator drones to the Kardashians and everything in between.

During its sold out run at Off Broadway's Cherry Lane Theater audiences, critics and celebrities' alike cheered. "There aren't that many jokes in the U.S. Constitution and it's never really been a big generator of belly laughs. Unless, that is, if you are Colin Quinn!" raved the Asbury Park Press. Then Ben Stiller tweeted "SO smart and FUNNY!" and Judd Apatow said "Such a unique, smart riotous show."

On May 25th, 1787, fifty-five delegates in wigs and tights sat down to create a country from scratch; on August 23rd be at Belleayre to hear all about it.

Brooklyn @ Belleayre

Brooklyn @ Belleayre

Produced by
Jake Ottmann

BANDS:

Celebrate Labor Day Weekend as the Belleayre Music Festival presents "Brooklyn @ Belleayre," featuring some of Williamsburg Brooklyn's brightest upcoming Bands, DJ's and Brands. This festival style event will be a great way to hear the coolest cutting edge music and to sample the tastiest foods from the world's most famous borough.

Williamsburg has become a notable home for live music and an incubator for new bands. Beginning in the late 1980s a number of unlicensed performances, theater and music venues operated in abandoned industrial buildings and other spaces in the streets surrounding the Bedford Avenue subway stop. Gradually, a music scene developed with musicians and artists who had varied approaches and opinions and all the bands sounded completely different. What makes the new Brooklyn scene remarkable is that it is impossible to classify. Out of Bedford Avenue came Vampire Weekend, MGMT, Grizzly Bear, and Dirty Projectors along with a string of their alternative rock hits.

The Hold Steady

Things to know about The Hold Steady:

* "Teeth Dreams" is the sixth album from one of America's most acclaimed rock bands.

* This is their first release in four years. Their last, "Heaven is Whenever," came out in May 2010.

* The songs on "Teeth Dreams" came together over the past three years. Many of them went through significant changes along the way. Four years is the most time between any two The Hold Steady releases.

* Guitarist Steve Selvidge joined The Hold Steady for the "Heaven is Whenever" tour. "Teeth Dreams" is the first THS release where Selvidge participated in the writing and recording. A number of the songs were written at sessions in Memphis, where Steve lives.

* The album was produced and mixed by Nick Raskulinecz. Nick has produced records by Foo Fighters, Rush, Alice in Chains, Deftones, Ghost and more.

* "Teeth Dreams" was recorded and mixed at Rock Falcon Studios in Franklin, TN. It is the first record that THS has made outside of the NYC area.

* This five-piece line up (two guitars, bass, drums, vocals) of the band showcases a bigger and tougher sound. The guitars are especially present on this release.

* This is the first release on the band's own Positive Jams imprint, which is in partnership with Washington Square/Razor & Tie.

* The title "Teeth Dreams" refers to a common nighttime dream. Dreams about teeth are usually triggered by anxiety. Anxiety is a theme that shows up in a number of songs on the album.

* The band recently launched an official fan club called The Unified Scene, and released a five song covers EP to the members of the club.

* The Hold Steady played their first show in 2003. They are entering their second decade as a band. The Hold Steady has been cited as influential by numerous rock acts such as Japandroids, Titus Andronicus, Frank Turner and many others.

* THS has toured heavily, and has played at least one show in all 50 states. They achieved this in summer 2013 when they played a show in Wyoming, the last state on their list.

Big Data

Big Data is a paranoid electronic music project from the Internet, formed out of a general distrust for technology and The Cloud (despite a growing dependence on them). Helmed by producer, Alan Wilkis, Big Data aims to explore the relationship between man and machine, and how the internet has reshaped the human experience.

Lily & The Parlour Tricks

The Tricks dive deep into the well of musical Americana and resurface with a wild stylistic brew. Lily's songwriting influences range from The Andrews Sisters to Nine Inch Nails, with heavy doses of both millennial pop and early rock n' roll. "Combining dissonant guitar riffs with angelic vocal harmonies, Lily & The Parlour Tricks are the perfect combo of pretty and gritty... the band has a mysterious depth that holds audiences transfixed through their salty and sweet set." (The Wild Magazine). Their first EP was recorded live to tape at the legendary Daptone Studios in Brooklyn, and they are currently hard at work on a decidedly different, full-length album with producer Emery Dobyns in Nashville. Their newest single, "Belle Gunness", is "...a tense, stomping electric gospel [which] definitely takes things to the next level through a newfound sonic boldness" (The Deli Magazine). The song is currently being featured in the latest BMW commercial. With their soaring harmonies, raucous attitude and "deadly sex appeal" (Aesthetes Anonymous), these friendly sh*t-talkers keep their audiences dancing and howling for more.

Keep checking our website at www.belleayremusic.org for the latest listing of bands who will be playing. This show will be presented on multiple stages.

Your attendance at this event will also benefit Brooklyn's Horizon's Foundation providing academic support and enrichment to students in grades K-8 as well as the Belleayre Conservatory.

Net proceeds go to benefit Horizons At Brooklyn Friends School and the Belleayre Conservatory.

Currently entering its seventh year, Horizons at Brooklyn Friends School serves low income public school children in the Downtown Brooklyn area. This nationally recognized program, will have 90 students enrolled this summer, focusing on providing them academic support and enrichment for students in grades K-8.
